Twenty-four officials, who were appointed on contract in departments and organisations by the ousted Awami League government, have had their contracts terminated in a single notice.

On Tuesday, a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration announced the cancellation of the contracts, effective immediately.

The notification, signed by Deputy Secretary Kaniz Fatema on behalf of the president, read: "As per the terms of the agreement with the government, the remaining duration of the contractual appointments of the following officials is hereby cancelled."

Among those who lost their jobs are:

- Md Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Germany

- Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General of the National Museum of Science and Technology

- Syed Zahurul Islam, Project Director of the initial infrastructure construction of the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Frontier Technology

Others include:

- Syed Belal Hossain of the Public Division of the President's Office

- Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, Commissioner of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, or BTRC

- Md Fazlul Bari, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Iraq

- Ashok Kumar Debnath, Secretary of the Election Commission

- Md Delwar Hossain, Commissioner (Management and Administration) of BTRC

- Syeda Sarwar Jahan, Chairperson of the Bangladesh Rubber Board

- Md Aftab Uddin Talukdar, Project Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited

- Md Mansurul Alam, Project Director of EC4J

- Mohsina Yasmin, Member of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, BIDA

- Zubaida Nasreen, Secretary of the Information Commission

- Md Kamruzzaman, Director General of the National Museum

- Shahabuddin Ahmed, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan

- GSM Zafrullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority

- Sarwar Mahmud, Chairman of the National River Protection Commission

- Uttam Kumar Das, Additional Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education

- Satyendra Kumar Sarkar, Member of the National River Protection Commission

- Shyamal Chandra Karmakar, Secretary of the Bangladesh Press Council

- Kofil Uddin, Project Director of the National Digital Land Zoning Project

- Zahurul Haque, Project Director of the Digital Land Management System

- AFM Hayatullah, Executive Director of Kabi Nazrul Institute

- Borhanul Haque, Director General of the Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Academy

Since the interim government took over following the change of power, various government and non-government institutions and organisations have been undergoing transfers and cancellations of appointments.

In some cases, officials are resigning voluntarily.
