The government has appointed retired secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury as the secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs on a one-year contract.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Tuesday stating that the appointment was made under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018.
The post had been vacant for nearly a week since Nasimul Ghani, the former home secretary, was named the cabinet secretary.
Ghani’s appointment to the top civil service post was announced on Feb 16, shortly before the BNP-led government officially took office.
Appointed through the 8th Bangladesh Civil Service examination, Manzur had retired as a deputy secretary of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission.
The interim government later granted him a retrospective promotion to secretary, recognising him as an official who had been discriminated against during the Awami League regime.
Manzur was among the 764 officials identified by the interim government as having been deprived of promotions during the Awami League's tenure.
