China has promised to strengthen cooperation in the healthcare sector with Bangladesh, aiming to provide improved medical facilities for Bangladeshi patients.
Officials from China’s health sector made the commitment during a three-day visit by a Bangladeshi journalists’ delegation to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province.
On the final day of the visit, the delegation toured several institutions, including Kunming Tongren Hospital and Kunming Eye Hospital, where they observed advanced medical technologies and services firsthand.
KUNMING TONGREN HOSPITAL
This “Level-3” multi-speciality private hospital offers a wide range of services including clinical treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, health management, medical education, and international academic exchanges.
Hospital officials briefed the journalists on the hospital’s overall capabilities.
During a one-hour presentation, the hospital noted it has treated several patients from Bangladesh suffering from severe illnesses and mental disabilities.
The delegation was also shown the International Spinal Cord Injury Centre, which leads in advanced surgery, intensive rehabilitation, and nerve regeneration research for acute and chronic spinal cord injuries.
The hospital’s Vice President Shen Ling said it employs over 100 specialist doctors across 37 specialised departments, including cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, gastroenterology, oncology, neurosurgery, orthopaedics, urology, and gynaecology.
He highlighted the hospital’s cutting-edge technology and patient-focused care.
The hospital offers rigorous and effective diagnostic procedures for foreign patients, coordinated by a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Successful treatments have already been provided to Bangladeshi patients for complex congenital heart diseases, advanced orthopaedic surgeries, and refractory illnesses.
Plans are under way to establish international outpatient, inpatient, and oncology centres at the facility.
KUNMING EYE HOSPITAL
The delegation also visited Kunming Eye Hospital, where they observed advanced laser surgery and diagnostic imaging technologies.
Hospital authorities pledged to simplify the admission process and communication for patients from Bangladesh.
Zhang Min, CEO of Kunming Eye Hospital, said although a private institution, the hospital’s treatment standards match those of government hospitals. Patients from India, Russia, Bangladesh, and other countries seek treatment there every year.
He added that the hospital provides affordable high-quality care to Bangladeshi patients and has employed English-speaking doctors to overcome language barriers.
Patients can email their medical details for prompt responses.
OTHER VISITS
The Bangladeshi delegation also toured Walvax Biotechnology, one of China’s top vaccine manufacturers.
The company said it plays a crucial role in the global vaccination programme by producing safe, effective, and high-quality vaccines.
On the final day, the journalists visited the Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall and the Yunnan Ethnic Village.
The visit was organised by the Chinese government to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh.
The 23-strong delegation was led by Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
