A pedestrian has been fatally struck by a bus in Dhaka’s Kamalapur area.

The deceased, Ruhul Amin, 55, a security guard at Kadamtola Purbo Bashabo School & College in Sabujbagh, was hit near the BRTC bus counter number 6 around 1pm on Tuesday, according to Mezbah Uddin, the chief of Motijheel Police Station.

Law-enforcing agencies took Ruhul to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2:15pm, where doctors declared him dead, said Abu Saleh Shahin, a sub-inspector at the Motijheel Police Station.

Police have since detained the bus driver, identified as Md Mohon, 29, and impounded the vehicle.

Ruhul’s son Shakil Sheikh said, “My father went to Kamalapur to buy a bus ticket to visit my sister’s house in Gopalganj during the Eid holidays. That’s when the accident occured.”
