A Dhaka court has allowed police to interrogate Md Sabibur Rahman, additional chief engineer of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), and his wife Farah Nusrat over the death of a child domestic help in the capital’s Dhanmondi.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ismail placed the couple on a two-day remand each on Saturday, according to Prosecution Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Bashar.
Dhanmondi Model Police SI and Investigating Officer Shahnewaz Bappi sought 10 days to question the suspects for allegedly pushing the girl, Rikta Moni, from a building to death.
The defence lawyer opposed the petition, seeking bail for the suspects before the judge granted the remand plea.
Police recovered Rikta’s body from a building on 9/A Road in Dhanmondi around 6am on Friday, prompting her day labourer father to sue the BWDB engineer and his wife.
Hailing from Sunamganj, Rikta was the second of five siblings.
