Dhaka police have issued a seven-day ultimatum to remove all inter-district night coach counters operating outside the capital’s three designated bus terminals, citing worsening congestion and illegal operations.
In a notice issued on Sunday night, acting Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Sarwar urged operators to relocate their counters to Gabtoli, Mohakhali, or Sayedabad within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the DMP, no inter-district bus services will be allowed to operate from any other location within the city after the deadline.
Operators have been asked to dismantle or relocate unauthorised counters voluntarily.
Failure to comply will trigger enforcement under the Road Transport Act and other relevant laws, with mobile courts led by the DMP magistrates set to take action.
Authorities warned that violators would face strict legal action, including imprisonment, fines, cancellation of route permits, and seizure of equipment.
The decision follows concerns that unregulated bus counters, roadside parking, and passenger boarding are disrupting traffic flow and fuelling congestion across the city, even at night.
Police said the move is aimed at easing gridlock, modernising traffic management, and improving urban services.
