The Election Commission (EC) has suspended the Feb 12 parliamentary elections in Pabna-1 and Pabna-2 following a court order over constituency boundary disputes.

On Saturday, Pabna Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Shahid Mostafa said he had received an official letter from the EC confirming the decision.

“A public notice regarding the suspension will now be issued,” he said.

The letter, signed by EC Secretariat Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain, instructed the local administration to take all necessary measures in line with the commission’s decision.

With the suspension, polling on Feb 12 will now be held in 298 of the 300 parliamentary constituencies.
