Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid has said there will be no shortage of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.
Speaking to the media after a meeting at the Secretariat on estimated demand, supply and smooth transportation of livestock on Sunday, the minister outlined the government’s preparations.
According to ministry data, the country has around 12.33 million sacrificial animals this year, against estimated demand of roughly 10.11 million.
“We are looking at a surplus of more than 2.22 million livestock,” the minister said.
“There is absolutely no risk of a shortage.”

The government has designated specific zones for cattle markets.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has approved 16 authorised cattle markets within its jurisdiction, while Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has designated 11.
Aminur said unauthorised makeshift markets would not be allowed.
The minister also said the government would take a firm stance against the illegal entry of cattle from neighbouring countries.
