Police have recovered the body of a 3-year-old boy near a cemetery in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila, three days after he went missing.

The child, identified as Saddam Hossain, was found next to the Madhya Shilmandi graveyard in the early hours of Sunday, according to Inspector Md Masud Alam of the Shekherchar Police Outpost.

His family had reported him missing on Mar 13, when he disappeared from outside their home in the Shilmandi Bilpar neighbourhood.

Locals made the grim discovery after noticing a foul odour near the burial ground, Masud said.

Family members later identified the body. “The child’s body has decomposed, but there are no visible signs of injuries,” he noted.

“The exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.”

Authorities have launched an investigation, and legal proceedings are underway based on the family’s initial report, police said.
