The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed another round of bans on meetings, gatherings, rallies, and processions in different areas, including the official residence of the chief justice and the Supreme Court.
A public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali made the move public on Sunday.
Earlier, similar bans were imposed in the areas on Jun 12 and May 15.
The latest public notice mentions the chief justice's official residence, Bicharpati Bhaban, Judges’ Complex, the Supreme Court's main gate, Mazar Gate, Jame Masjid Gate, the entrance gates of International Crimes Tribunals-1 and 2, and the road outside the Judicial Administration Training Institute building as areas where meetings are prohibited.
The notice also mentions these bans will remain in effect until further notice.
The DMP has issued several public notices banning gatherings around the chief advisor’s official residence, Jamuna, along with the Secretariat area.
The Jul 8 notice also listed areas near the Secretariat and State Guest House Jamuna, including InterContinental Dhaka intersection, Kakrail Mosque intersection, Officers’ Club intersection, and Minto Road.
Section 29 of the DMP Ordinance empowers the commissioner to issue a written order banning any assembly or procession at any time and for any duration, not exceeding 30 days, he deems necessary for the preservation of the public peace or safety.
