Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has appointed three new special assistants with the rank of state ministers.
Among the appointees, former inspector general of police Khuda Baksh Chowdhury will oversee the home ministry, while Sayedur Rahman, the vice chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, will handle the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
In addition, M Aminul Islam, the former vice chancellor of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, will take charge of the Ministry of Education.
The new appointments were confirmed after an oath-taking ceremony for three new advisors on Sunday evening.
A notification from the Cabinet Division on Sunday night made the appointments official.
As special assistants, they will enjoy the rank, salary, allowances, and other privileges of a state minister.
According to the Rules of Business, their appointment aims to assist the advisors in their duties.
The caretaker administration led by Yunus began its term following the fall of the Awami League government on Aug 5.
With the recent appointments, the advisory council now consists of 24 members.
Until now, the special assistant to the chief advisor had been Abdul Hafiz, along with Md Mahfuj Alam, one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Mahfuj has now been appointed an advisor, alongside businessman Sheikh Bashir Uddin and filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki.
