Bangladesh Bank has ordered banks to “ensure the supply of sufficient cash” in ATM booths for Eid-ul-Fitr.

A notification specifying the directives was sent to all bank managing directors and executive officers on Monday.

The central bank also called for tighter security measures to prevent any disruptions during the holiday.

It instructed bank officials to inspect ATM booths if necessary.

The directive says, "Transactions must be ensured through POS and QR codes. Merchants and customers must be made aware of fraud risks."

For internet banking and online e-payment gateways, the central bank mandated the implementation of two-factor authentication for card-based transactions.

For mobile financial services (MFS), the directive says all banks or their subsidiary companies providing this service must ensure uninterrupted transactions.

It also instructs to maintain adequate cash at agent points.

Bangladesh Bank said customers must be notified instantly via SMS of any transaction under these services.
