The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested the son of a former chauffeur of a Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman in an inquiry over the leaking of a recruitment exam question paper.

The arrestee Syed Sohannur Rahman Siam is the son of driver Syed Abed Ali Jibon, a suspect in the case.

ACC Public Relations Officer Tanzir Ahmed confirmed that the arrest was made by Deputy Assistant Director Zakir Hossain on Tuesday.

More details will be provided later, he said.

In January last year, the ACC filed a case against Abed Ali for amassing wealth worth Tk 37.5 million beyond known sources of income. Three cases were filed against Abed and his family.

The case accuses Abed of illegally acquiring Tk 37.2 million. The investigation found that 12 bank accounts in his name held deposits of Tk 200 million. The probe also found Tk 200 million had been withdrawn from the accounts.

The ACC identified the transactions as “suspicious”, obtained through “corruption and bribery”.

In the case filed against Abed Ali’s wife Shahrin Akter Shilpi, the ACC accused her of acquiring wealth worth Tk 12.6 million beyond known sources of income.

The investigation against Shahrin identified her bank transactions as “suspicious”. It found that two of her bank accounts had deposits of Tk 17.8 million. The accounts also held a record of a withdrawal of Tk 17.7 million.

The ACC also filed a separate case against Abed’s son Sohannur Rahman for acquiring wealth worth Tk 33 million beyond known sources of income.

Abed was remanded for three days on Thursday.
