Police have recovered the body of a 55-year-old farmer with his throat slit in the courtyard of a temple in Nilphamari's Jaldhaka Upazila.

The body was lying in the front courtyard of Singimari Temple in Kaimari Union on Tuesday afternoon, said Jaldhaka Police chief Nazmul Alam.

The victim has been identified as local resident Prabhat Roy. He leaves behind two wives and four children.

His eldest son, Patiram Roy, said his father left the house early in the morning with a sickle to cut banana leaves. Since he did not return, the family members started searching for him.

Locals found the bloodied body around 10am and informed the family, which then reported it to the police.

The corpse was sent to the Nilphamari General Hospital morgue for a postmortem.

Citing the inquest report, the police officer said there was an injury mark on the left side of Prabhat's neck.

An investigation is under way to uncover the truth of the killing.
