Chattogram City Mayor Shahadat Hossain has announced a citywide initiative to eliminate all illegal banners and posters.
On Wednesday, he joined students in a drive at Chawkbazar to remove unauthorised banners and posters, where he unveiled the plan.
“Chattogram will be free of illegal banners and posters,” Shahadat said.
“Placing them indiscriminately around the city diminishes its beauty. I have also urged party leaders and activists to refrain from putting them up.”
Praising the students’ participation as “positive and exemplary”, he added: “This city is ours, and everyone shares the responsibility to keep it clean.”
He said that in the future, advertisements will only be allowed through digital billboards authorised by the city corporation.
Fabric or plastic signboards will no longer be permitted, and mobile courts will take action against violators.
The mayor also said that instead of political division, his goal was to build a clean and liveable Chattogram through unity.
The posters taken down during the drive were advertising coaching centres and businesses in the area.
