Zubaida could have protested the killings of children in Iran, she says

Former fisheries and livestock advisor Farida Akhter has come down heavily on the prime minister's wife Zubaida Rahman for attending a conference in Washington at the invitation of US First Lady Melania Trump.

Farida made the criticism at a discussion in Dhaka University on Saturday, saying Zubaida could have protested the killings of children in Iran in the event.

Zubaida attended the two-day “Fostering the Future Together Global Coalition Summit” at White House on Mar 26, where first ladies and wives of state leaders from more than 45 countries around the world participated.

Farida said: "You may have seen it in the newspapers, but I find it very ironic that Melania Trump convened a meeting for the future of the children globally and invited all first ladies there.

"Sadly, our first lady [Zubaida] also went there. But they said [positive] things after killing 170 children, especially girls, on the first day of the Iranian war,” she said.

“We protest them for this audacity. Our first lady could have protested that too."

During the White House event, Zubaida also paid a courtesy call on Melania when both agreed to work together for the welfare of children.

At that time, Zubaida thanked Melania for organising the summit.

She also spoke at its opening ceremony.

Before the closing ceremony, Zubaida met and exchanged greetings with the first ladies and wives of state heads in other countries besides Melania.
