A 7-year-old girl has died after being run over by a bus in Dhaka's Kamalapur.

The child, identified as Roshni Pal, was crossing the road with her grandmother when she was struck by a BRTC bus around 9:30am on Monday.

Roshni, a first-grader at Motijheel Government Model School, was critically injured in the incident.

She was subsequently rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctor on duty declared her dead around 10:30am.

Sub-Inspector Saleh Shaeen of Motijheel Police Station said, “The bus was seized and its driver, Md Shahjahan, has been detained.”

Roshni was the daughter of Palash Pal hailing from Patgaon village in Munshiganj’s Tongibari. The family lives in a rented house in Mugda Manda.

Roshni's grandmother Rekha Biswas said she dropped her off at school in the morning.

After school ended, she was bringing her granddaughter home. Roshni was holding her grandmother’s hand and crossing the road at the Kamalapur intersection when the BRTC bus hit her, leaving her seriously injured.
