A teenager has been arrested on charges of “raping” a second-grader in Sirajganj’s Raiganj Upazila.

The 14-year-old was arrested in his maternal uncle’s house in Pabna on Friday afternoon, said Sirajganj Detective Police Sub-Inspector Nazmul Haque.

Nazmul said the arrestee was later sent to a juvenile correctional facility in Gazipur.

Earlier, on Sunday, the teenager was accused of raping a child in the Nadua village of Pangashi Union in Raigonj Upazila.

For four days, an attempt was made to mask the incident in the name of “shalish”, a traditional rural dispute resolution system.

Later, on Thursday, the child’s father filed a case, according to Md Asaduzzaman, chief of Raiganj Police Station.

Citing the case dossier, Asaduzzaman said the 7-year-old second-grader “rape” victim was a student of an NGO-run school in the village.

The case states that when the child had gone to school on Sunday, the school teacher’s teenage son called her to another room and proceeded with the act.

The child “rape” victim is currently undergoing treatment at Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital.
