The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast Nor’wester storms in four divisions, including Dhaka, and heavy rainfall in three divisions.
In a warning issued by the BMD on Sunday, it said that a Nor’wester storm with gusty winds of 60 to 80kph or more may blow from the west or northwest direction over the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Sylhet divisions in the 48 hours from noon on Sunday.
The BMD has also warned that the Nor’wester storms may be accompanied by lightning and hail.
In a warning issued on the same day regarding heavy rainfall, the BMD said that deep convection is likely to take place in the northern part of the country and adjacent areas and may continue.
As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some parts of the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in the 96 hours from 9am on Sunday.
The BMD warns of temporary waterlogging in some parts of these areas due to the rain.
Generally, the BMD considers 44-88mm of rainfall in 24 hours as heavy rainfall and more than 88mm as very heavy rainfall.
Meteorologist Afroza Sultana told bdnews24.com on Sunday afternoon, “Heavy rainfall is likely in four divisions. However, there will be no heavy rainfall in Dhaka and its surrounding areas.”
The regular weather bulletin on Sunday morning said that in the next 24 hours from 6am, there may be rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or gusty winds and lightning in some places of the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
Along with this, there may be moderate to heavy rainfall at places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
The day temperature may decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours.
In addition, the day temperature may decrease slightly in other parts of the country. And the night temperature may decrease slightly across the country.
The BMD says that a mild heat wave is blowing over the Dhaka, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Patuakhali, Rangamati, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Bandarban and Feni districts and 10 districts in the Khulna Division, but may abate in some places.
The highest temperature in the country over the 24 hours from 6am on Sunday was recorded as 38.4 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi.
The northern districts of Dinajpur and Sreemangal in Sylhet saw the lowest temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
During this period, Rangpur saw the highest rainfall in the country at 127mm. In addition, the BMD recorded 47mm of rainfall in Saidpur, 33mm in Tentulia and Dinajpur, 31mm in Rajarhat, and 30mm in Sreemangal.
