An overturned truck on the Meghna Bridge in Munshiganj's Gajaria Upazila has disrupted traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway for nearly three hours.
The truck, carrying iron rods, lost a wheel and overturned around 6am on Friday, spilling its cargo across the road, according to Shawkat Hossain, chief of the Bhoberchar Highway Police Outpost.
While traffic towards Cumilla remained unaffected, vehicles headed for Dhaka were stuck in a lengthy tailback that stretched nearly 8km by 8am.
Amir Ali, a bus driver heading to Dhaka, said: “We got stuck in traffic right after crossing Bhoberchar Bus Stand.”
Sirajul Islam, a pickup driver also heading to Dhaka, added: “I heard a truck overturned on the Meghna Bridge. I’ve been stuck in the same spot for over an hour and a half.”
Highway Police later removed the truck around 9am.
“The road has been cleared and traffic is gradually returning to normal,” Shawkat said.
