Six corruption cases against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her family over irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal New Town Project are now ready for trial.

Hasina and six members of her family are among 23 people implicated in the cases initiated by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib ordered the transfer of the cases to the Special Judge’s Court for trial proceedings.

Aminul Islam, assistant director of the ACC, said the suspects are absconding, and the publication of a gazette notice for their appearance in court has been mentioned in the case reports.

The other implicated members of Hasina's family are her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and Rehana’s children -- British MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, and Azmina Siddiq.

The other suspects are former Public Works Department (PWD) secretary Shahid Ullah Khandaker, former additional secretary Kazi Wasi Uddin, Administrative Officer Saiful Islam Sarkar, Senior Assistant Secretary Purabi Goldar, former RAJUK Chairman Anisur Rahman Mia, former members of RAJUK Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Kabir Al Asad, Tanmoy Das, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Nurul Islam, retired army major Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, director Sheikh Shahinul Islam, deputy directors Md Hafizur Rhman and Habibur Rahman, former prime minister’s private secretary Mohammad Salah Uddin and former state minister for PWD and Housing Sharif Ahmed.

The graftbusters filed the cases in January, alleging that while in the highest office of government, Hasina and her family abused their power to obtain plot allocations in their favour. Despite being ineligible, six plots were allegedly allotted to them.
