Police have detained an intern doctor over allegations of installing a hidden camera in the female doctors’ washroom at Tangail Medical College Hospital.
The accused has been identified as Raihan Kabir Iman.
According to fellow intern doctors, a female colleague discovered what appeared to be a pen-shaped camera inside a toilet in the hospital’s surgery ward on Sunday evening.
They alleged that as she exited the washroom, Iman attempted to take the device from her.
Colleagues also claimed he tried to confine her in a room and later damaged the device.
The incident was reported in writing to the hospital director later that night.
On Monday, hospital Director Md Abdul Quddus formed a five-member investigation committee, headed by Prof Mohammad Abu Hanif of the surgery department, instructing it to submit its findings within three working days.
Before police took Iman into custody on Monday afternoon, a group of doctors confined him and the hospital director inside the director’s office, hospital sources said.
Iman was also assaulted before being handed over to police.
“Iman has been suspended from his duties pending investigation,” Quddus told bdnews24.com.
Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police HM Mahbub Rezwan Siddiqui said, “Iman has been taken into police custody, and legal action is under way.”
