National Sports Award for 32 Bangladesh sportsperson for 2010-12

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has handed over the National Sports Awards for 2010 to 2012 to 32 sportspersons and organisers for their contributions.

The ceremony was held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in capital Dhaka on Sunday.

Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been awarded posthumously for the year 2011 for his role as a sportsman and an organiser.

The founder of the country's leading sports club Abahani Limited was assassinated along with his parents, wife and other family members on Aug 15, 1975.

Kamal's friend Bangladesh Olympic Association Secretary General and Dhaka Club President Syed Shahed Reza received the award on his behalf from Hasina.

The government started bestowing the National Sports Award in 1976. Since then, 188 sportspersons have received the awards.

The recipients

2010

Harun-ur-Rashid and Takbir Hossain (posthumously) in swimming; Atiqur Rahman in shooting; Mahmuda Begum, Farid Khan Chowdhury, Nelly Jesmin and Nipa Bose in athletics; Dewan Nazrul Hossan in gymnastics; Mizanur Rahman Manu and ASM Ali Kabir as organisers.

2011

Rowshan Ara Chobi in gymnastics; Md Kanchan Ali in boxing; Ashraf Ali in westling; Helena Khan Iva in volleyball; Khaled Mashud Pilot in cricket; Rabiul Islam in bodybuilding; Jumman Lusai in hockey; Kutubuddin Md Chowdhury and Ashiqur Rahman Miku as organisers; Sheikh Kamal as sportsman and sports organiser.

2012

Firoza Khatun in athletics; Shakib Al Hasan in cricket; Mohammad Mohsin, Khurshid Alam Babul, Ashish Bhadra, Abdul Gaffar and Satyajit Das Rupu in football; Mamun-ur-Rashid in hockey; Nazia Aktar Juthi in badminton; Rajibuddin Ahmed Chapal, Nurul Alam Chowdhury and Umme Salma Rafique (posthumously) as organisers.
