Lodewijk de Kruif's men could not put up any resistance against the Asian Cup champions at nib Stadium in Perth on Thursday.

The Socceroos were in full control of the game from the outset and scored their first two goals in a space of two minutes in the opening spell of the first half.

Bangladesh could barely take the ball into the opponents’ half as Australia netted four times in the first 45 minutes.

Matthew Leckie opened the scoring in the sixth minute taking advantage of some sloppy defending from Topu Barman and Yeasin Khan.

He latched on to the ball at the near post and clipped it in before Celtic playmaker Tomas Rogic doubled the tally two minutes later with a shot from the middle of the box.

The hosts extended their lead with an own goal from Barman in the 20th minute.

Rogic's cross from the right took a deflection from Barman as goalkeeper Shahidul Alam Sohel helplessly watched the ball roll past him into the net.

Nine minutes later, the AFC Asian Cup champions made it 4-0 when Nathan Burns beat Sohel with a rebound shot.

As Australia kept pressing for more, Bangladesh brought on Monayem Khan Raju to replace Hemanta Vincent Biswas before Shahidul parried away a lethal free-kick from Aaron Mooy in the 40th minute.

Nasirul Islam Nasir was stretchered off in the closing minutes of the first half and Yeamin Ahmed Chowdhury was brought on.

Mooy added another goal for Australia in the 61st minute to send the home team to the top of Group B on six points.

Australia then made a double substitution replacing Rogic with captain Tim Cahill and Leckie with Christopher Oikonomidis.
Oikonomidis’ header was denied by the crossbar seven minutes later.

Australia kept probing for more goals in the rest of the half but Sohel made a couple of fine saves to prevent the visitors from sinking further before the final whistle.

The defeat also keeps Bangladesh winless in their qualifying campaign while Australia picked up their second win in Group B.
