This is still almost impossible to process. Brazil have been beaten 7-1 IN BRAZIL IN A WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL. It's worse than losing 2-1 to Uruguay in the 1950 final. Brazilian soccer is in shambles. Total humiliation for them and Germany are in the final.

It's a result that won't ever be lived down by any Brazilian on the field. No one ever thought this was a great Brazilian team, but it didn't seem like a bad one. It will now go down as an awful team that put in a result as the hosts that will take years to repair.

Full Time

90+2'     THE REFEREE BLOWS THE FINAL WHISTLE! That is it. We have seen a national disaster and an essentially flawless performance on the same field. Boos are everywhere in the Estádio Mineirão.

90+1'     GOAL! A NON-GERMAN GOAL TOO! GERMANY 7 - 1 BRAZIL!

Brazil scores on the counter. Oscar twists and turns to get away from the defender and finds the back of an empty net. Lapse of concentration from the German defence.

82'          Wow - the Brazilians in the stadium are cheering the Germans. Booing your own team is tiresome, so they're applauding the opposition. The Germans are just playing keep away with the ball now. The problem is, the Brazilians are so terrible that they're playing keep away all the way into the back of the net. It's almost like the Germans can't not score it they have the ball.

80'          Germany are storming into the final handing Brazil their WORST EVER DEFEAT! Brazilian dreams faded away before it even began!

79'          AND THE SEVENTH GOAL! ITS SEVEN - NIL!!!

Julio Caesar is left leaning against his own goal post, crying. Schurrle controls a cross from the left at a tight angle. He takes one touch to control it and with another he slams it against the underside of the crossbar at the near post. An amazing hit of the ball! Venom, accuracy, and a deadly result as Brazil stand flatfooted. It pretty much sums up the night.

76'          Germany substitution: Khedira off, Julian Draxler on. Khedira had a great night but makes his way for the exciting youngster.

74'          If Brazil can't get another goal then this will be the biggest ever winning margin in a World Cup semi-final. It has been utter humiliation for the hosts, and tonight will surely overtake the 2-1 defeat in the 1950 World Cup final as the lowest point in Brazilian football history.

71'          Brazil substitution. Fred goes off, Willian comes in. Fred departs with boos and jeers from home crowd.

69'          GOAL NUMBER SIX!!!! GERMANY 6 - 0 BRAZIL!

Lahm is in acres of space on the right. He squares it into the box. Muller gets on the ball and taps it towards Schurrle who puts it in the back of the net. The stadium erupts in boos.

68'          First booking of the game! Dante is booked for a nibble at Muller before bringing him down with a late challenge. No complaints from the Bayern Munich man.

58'          Germany substitution: Miroslav Klose off, Andre Schürrle on.

57'          Mesut Ozil sends the ball down the left for Muller, who battles away to eventually get a cross in towards Klose. The ball doesn't quite reach the striker, but he puts the pressure on Luiz, who just scoops the ball back to his keeper. Nervy defending.

53'          BRILLIANT SAVE BY NEUER AGAIN! An incredible double save from the Germany keeper! Paulinho slid through on goal and winds up his effort from the left side of the box but the power behind it is good, but is hit straight at Neuer, who stands firm to make the first save. The rebound bounces back to Paulinho, but Neuer makes a stunning stop to deny the Tottenham man again.

'          GREAT SAVE BY NEUER! Brazil's best chance of the match by a long way. Play falls to Oscar as some more nice play sees the Chelsea man find space to shoot inside the box. He hits it with the outside of his boot, but Neuer makes a fine stop. This is a lot better from the hosts, though.

51'          A Brazil attack breaks down with an overhit Bernard cross, but they soon win it back and attack again, with Neuer making an important interception to deny Ramires's low cross.

50'          Brazil on the front foot in this early second half. But its difficult to wonder what to think in order to pick up from FIVE GOALS DOWN!

46'          Brazil get the second half underway. Dead silence in the stands.

Half Time

45'          The referee blows for half-time. The Brazilian fans are booing their team off the field. A sports, national, and cultural catastrophe is unfolding at the Estádio Mineirão.

42'          Oscar attacks down the left and into the box. He has some space for a moment but runs out of choices. No passes are available to him, so he shoots from a tight angle and it's blocked.

29'          AND ANOTHER ONE!!! GERMANY SCORES THEIR FIFTH! GERMANY 5 - 0 BRAZIL!

This is worse that a rout. So awful. Germany win the ball in the Brazilian half and Ozil, Klose, and Khedira break forward. Ozil squares it to Khedira, who has yards of space inside the box and shoots to send the fifth one in! NIGHTMARE FOR BRAZIL!

26'          ANOTHER GOAL! GERMANY 4 - 0 BRAZIL!!

Khedira waltzes into the box, draws the keeper and three defenders and then squares it to an unmarked Kroos. He takes a touch and taps it in to an empty net. THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE!

24'          ANOTHER GOOOAAALLL!!! GERMANY 3 - 0 BRAZIL!!!

Ozil cuts down the right win and pulls the ball back for Muller. Muller scuffs his shot, but Kroos drills it from 18 yards with his right foot.

23'          GOOOAAALLL!!! GERMANY 2 - 0 BRAZIL!!

The German's easily center a Thomas Mueller throw-in to Khedira at the top of the box. He plays it into Muller's feet who lays it off the Klose. Klose's first shot, which he should bury, is blocked by Caesar buy the rebound falls to Klose and he puts it in the back of the net!

15'          David Luiz tries romps through the midfield. The attack looks great as he releases Hulk on the left, but breaks down as it's centered.

11'          GOOOAAALLL!!! MUELLER SCORES HIS FIFTH GOAL!! GERMANY LEAD!

From a corner, a totally unmarked Thomas Muller side-foots home from six yards out to fire Germany into the lead.

10'          Hulk is stripped of the ball on the left and Germany break three on three to win a corner.

8'             Both Brazilian fullbacks - Marcelo on the left and Maicon on the right -- have made runs through the center.

The German's get a shot from Khedira inside hte box, but it his Kroos in the back. That was the most dangerous moment from the Germans so far.

6'             Germany get their first bit of real possession in the Brazilian half and try to work it down the right wing. It's broken up as Muller tries to exchange with Lahm and Brazil try break, unsuccessfully.

2'             Fernandinho from Brazil tries to send the ball into the area but his cross is blocked by a Germany defender.

Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari picked winger Bernard to replace injured forward Neymar for their World Cup semi-final against Germany on Tuesday.

Neymar, the host nation's poster boy who scored four goals in the tournament, was ruled out of the rest of the finals after fracturing a vertebra in the quarter-final win over Colombia.

Dante was drafted in to replace suspended captain Thiago Silva in central defence and midfielder Luiz Gustavo was brought in for Paulinho in the other two changes.

Germany coach Joachim Loew fielded an unchanged team from the one that beat France 1-0 in the quarter-final, with Miroslav Klose, the only player to have featured in the 2002 World Cup final between the sides, starting as their lone striker.

Brazil lineup:

12-Julio Cesar; 6-Marcelo, 23-Maicon, 13-Dante, 4-David Luiz; 17-Luiz Gustavo, 5-Fernandinho, 20-Bernard, 11-Oscar, 7-Hulk; 9-Fred

Substitutes:

1-Jefferson, 2-Daniel Alves, 3-Thiago Silva, 8-Paulinho, 10-Neymar, 14-Maxwell, 15-Henrique, 16-Ramires, 18-Hernanes, 19-Willian, 21-Jo, 22-Victor

Germany lineup:

1-Manuel Neuer; 16-Philipp Lahm; 20-Jerome Boateng; 5-Mats Hummels; 4-Benedikt Hoewedes; 7-Bastian Schweinsteiger; 6-Sami Khedira; 18-Toni Kroos; 8-Mesut Ozil; 13-Thomas Mueller, 11-Miroslav Klose

Substitutes:

2-Kevin Grosskreutz, 3-Matthias Ginter, 9-Andre Schuerrle, 10-Lukas Podolski, 12-Ron-Robert Zieler, 14-Julian Draxler, 15-Erik Durm, 17-Per Mertesacker, 19-Mario Goetze, 21-Shkodran Mustafi, 22-Roman Weidenfeller, 23-Chrisoph Kramer

The European heavyweights' consistency since then is nothing short of spectacular, coming back as title contenders every four years and making the semi-finals in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

However, what they have failed to do is lift a fourth trophy, stumbling at the penultimate hurdle each time.

Without a World Cup win since 1990 and an international title since Euro 96, the Germans are convinced they finally have a team that can deliver the killer punch.

Brazil, chasing a sixth world title, are still reeling from Neymar's injury in their quarter-final win over Colombia, and the entire nation is holding its breath and hoping the team's chances have not been irreparably damaged.

Neymar, who scored four goals in the tournament, fractured a vertebra late in the game and will be out for the rest of the tournament but for Brazil there is no alternative but to get to the final in Rio de Janeiro on July 13.

Any other result would be a national catastrophe for the country of 200 million football-mad fans, similar to the 1950 final defeat by Uruguay, also in Brazil.

But if anyone knows how to beat the Germans it is Scolari who led Brazil to their most recent world title in 2002 with a 2-0 victory over Germany in the final in what is, surprisingly, the teams' only previous World Cup meeting.
