The health ministry said a $ 140 million loan agreement might be signed next March based on the survey findings.

It would be the second phase of Japan’s loan agreement with the health ministry.

Japan, Bangladesh’s biggest aid donor, is currently providing $ 47 million to the ongoing Health, Population and Nutrition Sector Development Programme (HPNSDP).

It runs a project on safe motherhood.

JICA Chief in Dhaka Mikio Hataeda spoke about the upcoming signing on Wednesday after a meeting with health minister Mohammed Nasim at the latter’s office.

The junior minister Zahid Maleque and secretary MM Neazuddin were also present among others.

Hataeda praised Bangladesh’s health achievements and assured continuing support.

Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe had earlier in May promised to give nearly $ 6 billion official assistance over the next four or five years, including this year.
