“Almost 99.95 percent factories paid festival allowances to their workers,” Siddiqur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturer and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
At a media briefing on Monday, he said that they had formed nine monitoring bodies responsible of factories in each region.
Rahman said that the police and commerce ministry provided them with a list of 350 factories, which might face problems with wages and allowances.
“We have checked a total of 1,319 factories and 12,000 of them were being monitored closely. Three of them are yet to pay festival allowances,” said the BGMEA president.
Some workers’ rights bodies, however, have trashed the claims made by the business body.
