“Today’s Bangladesh is a totally changed Bangladesh. The people are now much more confident...committed to materialising any impossible task,” she said at the inaugural ceremony of the Bangladesh Investment and Policy Summit 2016 on Sunday.

The two-day summit organised by the Board of Investment (BoI), which is headed by the prime minister, aims at highlighting investment and business opportunities in Bangladesh.

Hasina feels that despite all odds the economy has been growing steadily for the last seven years, marking a GDP growth of over six percent.

She also thinks that Bangladesh’s ability to attract investments from foreign and local private entities has increased.

Bangladesh is now able to handle big projects and the self-funded Padma Bridge project testifies to that, said the prime minister.

“This is the most opportune moment for you to play your dynamic role and be part of our historic growth and development.”

The summit will provide a platform for those who wish to learn about Bangladesh's investment trends, policies and potentials, she told investors.

“I would like to reassure you all of our highest level of commitment to facilitate your realistic proposals quickly, said Sheikh Hasina, adding that Bangladesh guaranteed the security and profitability of investments.

Bangladesh has entered a new era of inclusive and equitable growth – both economic and social, she said, adding, “We may have some limitations, but I believe we can overcome those with your cooperation.”

She also said the government was going to establish the Bangladesh Development Authority to facilitate investments. “We have adopted substantial reform initiatives in recent years in a more systematic and sustained manner to ensure an even better business climate.”
