Germany pleased with progress in Bangladesh’s clothing sector, offers help in textiles 

German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller has said they want to continue helping Bangladesh for the development of the textile sector.

He said he was happy about the progress and development of the garment sector in Bangladesh.
 
The German minister expressed his interest while calling on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban on Wednesday.
 
Her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim later briefed the reporters.
 
Müller said the fire protection and labour protection measures in Bangladesh’s RMG sector improved a lot.    
 
Hasina emphasised foreign buyers increasing the prices of the apparel products, which would ultimately help the workers to get better wages.
 
She said her government increased the wages of the clothing workers by more than 200 percent after coming to power in 2009.
 
She also said the policy of her party was to promote the workers and farmers of Bangladesh.
 
The German minister termed Bangladesh a favourite partner and stressed on cooperation in sectors such as energy and leather.
 
The prime minister sought German help for expansion of solar power and asked the German minister to increase investment in Bangladesh.
 
She also invited German Chancellor Angela Markel to visit Bangladesh.
 
PM's International Affairs Adviser Gowher Rizvi and Principal Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present, among others, during the meeting.
