Food inflation soars to 6.37 percent in March

Increase in food prices has soared inflation in March.

On a point-to-point basis, it surged to 6.27 percent from 6.14 in February.

It implies that goods and services, which could be bought with Tk 100 in March last year, will now cost Tk 106.27.

Food price inflation in March stood at 6.37 percent, up from 6.11 the previous month.

Non-food price inflation, however, edged down to 6.12 percent from 6.2.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal disclosed the latest figures of the key economic indicator at a media briefing on Tuesday.

The average inflation, however, came down to 6.66 percent, which was 7.55 percent in March last year, according to the planning ministry.

The BNP-led coalition's agitations demanding a snap poll over the last three months caused the inflation, said the minister.

Over a hundred people died, mostly in incidents of arson and firebombing on vehicles in the last three months.
