The Denim Expo will be held on Nov 11 and 12 at the Radisson Blu Hotel, with companies from Bangladesh and 10 other nations taking part, organisers said on Thursday.

They launched the event’s website www.bangladeshdenimexpo.com at a press conference at the Sonargaon Hotel.

Chief organiser and Denim Export Limited MD Mostafiz Uddin said the initiative was part of efforts to turn Bangladesh into a ‘one-stop innovative denim sourcing platform’.

“Our goal is to create a sector for the world’s denim stakeholders that will benefit everybody,” he said.

Besides Bangladeshi companies, companies from US, Singapore, Japan, Italy, China, India, Pakistan and Taiwan will take part in the expo.

Visitors will have to register at the expo’s website.

In Bangladesh, $900 million have been invested in denim. Monthly output in the country is 30 million yards but there is an additional demand of 60 million yards.

The world produces 7 billion metres (about 7.65 billion yards) of denim annually, 70 percent of it manufactured in Asia.
