He raised the demand at a meeting with a delegation led by D8 Secretary General Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi on Tuesday.

"As an underdeveloped nation, we get duty and quota-free access from big nations. Among the D8 nations, Bangladesh is the only LDC," Tofail told reporters after the meeting.

"Therefore we expect duty and quota-free access from the D8 nations which will increase our export earnings by 30 percent," he said.

He said this would be the prime issue on the agenda for the D8's commerce minister-level meeting in Ankara on Oct 20-21.

Secretary General Mousavi has assured Dhaka of his full cooperation in the matter, he said.

The minister added that bilateral talks would be held with each of the D8 nations at Ankara.

The D8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation comprises Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
