Steele resigns as Biman MD

Kevin Steele, the first foreign Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, has resigned exactly one year after he took the job.

Also the CEO, he told bdnews24.com on Sunday that he stood down on ‘medical grounds’.

“I regret to advise that I have resigned from Biman on medical grounds,” the Briton said in an e-mail.

The former general manager (sales and revenue development) of British Airways had joined the flag carrier in Mar 18 last year after the Biman Board of Directors chose him as the first foreign MD.

With British Airways, he lived and worked in South Africa, China, Singapore (covering Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia), Saudi Arabia and Yemen, Pakistan and India (covering Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan).

He also had worked for Etihad Airways as head of world sales.

Steele has over 30 years of experience in the airline industry.

He also worked as the senior vice-president of Arik Air, a Nigerian airline, since 2010.

A fellow and a member of Chartered Institute of Transport, Steele also speaks several languages including French, German and Mandarin (Chinese).
