The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order on Wednesday on a writ petition.

The court also issued a rule asking why the auction process should not be declared illegal.

The communications secretary, RHD chief engineer, Barisal RHD additional chief engineer and Patuakhali district deputy commissioner, police superintendent and RHD executive engineer have been made respondents in the rule.

bdnews24.com ran a report on May 8 on the Patuakhali HRD’s alleged embezzlement of money through irregularities in auction of old equipments and materials.

Private TV station ‘News 9’ Patuakhali district correspondent Rajib Basu filed the writ petition in public interest.

The court asked the communications secretary, RHD chief engineer and Barisal RHD additional chief engineer to submit a report on the progress of the investigation by June 16 after forming a coordination committee.

Lawyers MD Shamsul Haq Khan, MD Nazmul Haq and Jasmine Nahar stood for the petitioner during the hearing.

The lawyers told the court that equipment and materials of the Patuakhali RHD worth tens of millions of taka were sold to three dubious firms - Nazma Enterprise, Gazi Trading Corporation and Karnaphuli Engineering - at only taka 0.55 million.
