The Cabinet Division, in the order issued recently but published on Wednesday, asked the field level officials not to post anything ‘personal’ on Facebook.
The order, sent to the divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and Upazila Nirbahee (executive) Officers, said the Cabinet Division at a coordination meeting among divisional commissioners last month took note of a photo an official posted on Facebook.
Without naming the official, the order said the photo was not consistent with his professional status and it might draw criticisms.
It said though one could share opinions freely at social networking sites, a government official should not behave in a manner, which was inconsistent with his job.
“So, a government official is expected to act responsibly while using information and communication technology,” it said.
It also ordered to share positive and innovative sides of the government that could inspire others.
