BRTC bus catches fire in Dhaka's Kuril due to 'battery short circuit'

Authorities suspect a short circuit in the double-decker's battery likely caused the fire. No casualties were reported in the incident

A BRTC double-decker bus has been burnt in a fire while parked beneath a flyover on Dhaka's Kuril Bishwa Road.

The incident was reported around 1:42pm on Friday, according to Rashed Bin Khaled, duty officer at the Fire Service Control Room.

Two firefighting units were subsequently dispatched to the scene and the flames were put out by 2:00pm, he said.

"Although the fire was extinguished, most of the bus was already destroyed," he added.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a short circuit in the bus’s battery likely sparked the fire.

"There were no passengers on the bus at the time, so there were no injuries," said Rashed.
