“We came to know about it from his family,” said SI Md Kamruzzaman of Chittagong’s Kotwali Police Station.
Quoting his family, Kamruzzaman said Mridul was found unconscious at Kongsobazar of Burhichong Upazila in Comilla.
He was now at Burhichong Police Station, he said.
Kamruzzaman said a police team from Chittagong had been sent to Comilla to bring the gold trader back home.
According to his family, Mridul was kidnapped from his residence at the Old Telegraph Road in Chittagong on Feb 11.
The gang who kidnapped him had introduced themselves as personnel from RAB and DB police.
Local gold traders and his family alleged that the abduction took place just after he filed a case of looting 8.8 kilograms of gold against three persons, Major Rakibul Amin of RAB -2, RAB informer Fahad Chowdhury and car driver Babul Paal.
Mridul owns the Dulhan Jwellers at Chittagong’s New Market.
His brother later filed a general diary with Kotwali Police Station, that became the basis of a criminal case.
On Saturday, the RAB launched an operation in Savar's Aminbazar to nab those who had reportedly abducted Mridul.
