Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to sign the agreement during the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York this month.

On Monday, the cabinet approved the proposal to sign the legally binding instrument of the UN for nuclear disarmament.

"A total of 122 countries, including Bangladesh, have supported the treaty,” Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told the media after the weekly cabinet meeting.

"The cabinet's nod is required to sign these kinds of treaties.”

The cabinet on Monday also approved the draft of an agreement with the United Arab Emirates or UAE on flight operations.

"This is an old treaty, effective from March 1988. Some conditions and definitions have been changed," said Alam.

During the meeting, the Planning Division briefed the cabinet on preparations to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs by 2030, he added.

"The progress of Bangladesh toward attaining SDGs is satisfactory and Bangladesh is now ahead of many countries."
