The recovery of four bodies in Dinajpur, three in Lalmonirhat and two in Kurigram has raised the death toll to 27.

Dinajpur

Four more people have died as the flooding situation worsened in Dinajpur, raising the death toll to 13.

Rail lines in most parts of the district went under floodwater, halting service.

The district administration is currently using all educational institutions in the 13 Upazilas as shelters.

Four people drowned in the floodwaters between Sunday night and Monday morning, said Deputy Commissioner Khairul Alam.

Nine others had died on Sunday.

Lalmonirhat

Three members of a family, including two children, have died after a raft overturned as it tried to cross floodwaters in Lalmonirhat.

The dead have been identified as Alim, 7, Nazim, 4, and Nazma Begum, 35.

Local resident Mozzammel Haq had been attempting to take his son Alim, his nephew Nazim and Nazim’s mother Nazma Begum to safety aboard a raft made of banana tree trunks on Monday evening, Kulaghat Union Parishad Chairman Idris Ali told bdnews24.com.

“The raft overturned and everyone aside from Mozzammel went missing. Nazim’s body was found nearby soon afterwards. The other two were found on Monday.”
