Bangladesh appoints Abida Islam as new ambassador to South Korea

The government has decided to appoint Abida Islam as the next ambassador of Bangladesh to South Korea.

Currently, she is serving as director general (Americas) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A career diplomat, Islam belongs to the 15th batch of BCS Foreign Affairs Cadre.

She earlier served as deputy high commissioner of Bangladesh at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

She also served in Bangladesh missions in London, Colombo and Brussels in different capacities.

The foreign ministry said she 'successfully' completed several professional training courses at home and abroad, and represented Bangladesh at a number of international conferences, seminars and summits on a variety of issues.

She studied sociology at Dhaka University and also another Master’s Degree in “Foreign Affairs and Trade” from Monash University, Australia.
