The current secretary, Muhammad Abdullah, has been transferred and made secretary to the industries ministry following a public administration ministry order on Thursday.

The shuffle came amidst criticism over the EC and the Secretariat’s authority in transferring field officials.

One of the election commissioners recently sought explanation from the EC secretary through an ‘unofficial note’ over one of the transfers

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda later said the EC and the Secretariat were not responsible for the transfers of field officials and there was no scope for misunderstanding.
In a separate public administration ministry order on Thursday, Public Safety Division’s OSD Additional Secretary Md Abdul Hannan was made chairman of the Land Appeal Board with the acting secretary status.
Also, Nomita Halder, Personal Secretary-II to the Prime Minister, has been appointed acting secretary of the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.
