Three speedboats from the BSF Indian border patrol will join three BGB speedboats in the search, said Lalmonirhat-15 BGB Battalion Director Lt Col Golam Morshed.

A fire service diving squad is also searching the river, he said.

The missing BGB trooper has been identified as Lance Naik Sumon Howladar who was assigned to the Dohogram Camp of the Lalmonirhat-15 BGB Battalion.

Howladar hails from the Habiganj district.

BGB say he went missing late on Monday night during a speedboat patrol on the Teesta River near Patgram Upazila.

Lt Col Morshed told bdnews24.com that Sumon and four others were on the patrol.

“The patrol saw the boat they believed was used by smugglers and ordered them to stop. When they refused to do so the BGB gave chase. At one point during the chase Sumon fell into the water and went missing.”
