Two more bodies found in Rangamati five days after landslides

Two more bodies have been found in Rangamati, five days after the landslides which claimed over 150 lives in the southeastern part of the country.

The recovery of the bodies on Saturday raised the death toll to 112 in the hill tract district and the overall toll in five southeastern districts to 158.

Rangamati Executive Magistrate Khandaker Md Ikhtiyar Uddin Arafat told the media that the bodies of a man and a woman, identified as Tiyong Chakma and Chigechotha Chakma, were recovered at the Jurachhari Upazila.

Meteorologists say such heavy rains triggered by a low took place also in 2004. The low advanced from northwest to southwest at that time.

But the low this time chose the opposite direction and advanced towards northeast. It weakened into rains in Rangamati and the other hill districts.
