The four bodies were buried under police supervision at Chapainawabganj’s municipal cemetery around 2 am on Saturday, said Sadar Police Station OC Saber Reza.

Abu’s family did not receive his body and the other three deceased could not be identified, prompting police to conduct the burials, the OC told bdnews24.com.

Security forces had surrounded the suspected militant hideout on Thursday morning. Four bodies were found at the scene after a SWAT raid ended on Thursday evening.

The bodies were recovered around 1:30 pm on Friday.

Locals have received permission to return to the area near the ‘hideout’. The building itself is locked and police have been deployed nearby. The media has not been granted permission to enter the building.

Locals say they still feel tense over the situation. Azizur Rahman Palash, a neighbour, had left his home at the bidding of police on Wednesday and was able to return on Friday evening.

“But I am still quite anxious,” he said. “I can hardly believe that militants were present right next to my house.”

Police have filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act, said the district’s Superintendent of Police Mujahidul Islam.

“Shibganj Police Station SI Abdus Salam is acting as the plaintiff in the case,” he said. “Sumaiya, the wife of the deceased militant Abu, is the only accused.”

Sumaiya had been brought out of the hideout on Thursday after suffering a gunshot wound. She is currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
