She was rescued from a home in Dhaka’s Jurain at 2 am on Thursday, said Lalbagh Division Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Ibrahim Khan.

Five, including a woman identified as ‘Brishti’, were taken into custody, said Kamrangirchar Police Station OC Shahin Fakir.

“Sumaiya is healthy and is speaking to us,” Sumaiya’s father Zakir Hossain told bdnews24.com.

The five-year-old girl had gone missing near her home in Kamrangirchar’s Borogram around 5 pm on Apr 3.

Zakir filed a general diary over his daughter’s disappearance that very night.

Twenty-two days after her disappearance he also filed a case of kidnapping.

Asked why it had taken so long to file the kidnapping case, OC Shahin Fakir said, “We explained the reason for the case to him, but he said ‘What is the point of a case? Just please find my daughter.’”

Video footage from near Sumaiya’s house showed a woman wearing a black burqa walking away with the girl.

Sumaiya’s parents suspected the involvement of a couple who used to live next to their home but had moved out several months ago.

“Our neighbour was among those arrested,” Zakir told bdnews24.com.
