12 injured in clashes between Dhaka University BCL factions

Twelve people have been injured in a clash between supporters of Dhaka University Salimullah Muslim Hall Bangladesh Chhatra League’s president and general secretary.

According to hall residents, the clash between supporters of Hall BCL President Tahsan Ahmed Rasel and General Secretary Mehedi Hassan Tapash occurred around 11:30 pm on Thursday.

Dhaka University will open an investigation into the incident and will take appropriate measures against the guilty, said acting Proctor Amzad Ali.

Fourth year Education and Science Institute student Arifur Rahman Arif and fourth year Music Department student Raihan Kabir were administered first aid at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and then transferred to the University Medical Centre. The other victims were given first aid.

According to students, the two factions clashed after an argument over a second-floor verandah office.

Some of those involved were seen using rods and sticks. Ten offices belonging to supporters of Tapash were vandalised during the clashes and several windows were broken. Students allege three laptops were stolen from the trunks of the general secretary’s supporters.

The situation was brought under control after Proctor Ali and Dhaka University BCL President Abid Al Hassan arrived on the scene.
