Detectives carried out searches in a residential area behind Tongi’s Tamirul Millat Madrasa on Thursday evening.

“The searches are part of our ongoing anti-terror operation,” Gazipur’s Additional Superintendent of Police Rasel Sheikh told bdnews24.com.

Tongi Police Station OC Md Firoz Talukder identified the detained trio as the madrasa’s student and Islami Chhatra Shibir worker Touhidul Islam, and local traders ‘Abdullah’, 30, and Anisur Rahman, 42.

He said they were detained for questioning.

The law-enforcement agencies intensified the crackdown on militancy in the area after suspected militants tried to snatch away death-row militant leader Mufti Hannan and his accomplices by attacking a prison van in Tongi when the convicts were being transported from a court in Dhaka to the Kashimpur Jail in Gazipur recently.
