The victim has been identified as 35-year old Sakera Khatun, an assistant teacher at Patiya’s North Deyang Government Primary School.

The accident occurred as the victim was on her way to school on Wednesday morning, said Bakalia Police Station Traffic Inspector Abdullah Khan Badal.

Sakera was waiting for the bus in the Amanat Shah area around 9am, he said.

“At this time a bus driver lost control and hit a truck. The truck then struck another bus, which then ran over Sakera.”

A critically injured Sakera was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, said Hospital Police Outpost Naik Kanchan Barua.

Though the truck and buses were impounded, the drivers and their assistants fled the scene, said Bakalia Police Station OC Pranab Chowdhury.

Immediately after the accident locals gathered in protest at a square by the bridge and blocked the road. The protest dispersed around 11 am and traffic returned to normal.
