Wall besieging a family knocked down as Awami League summons MP for son's action

The ruling party has intervened in the land dispute in Khulna in which the son of a local MP constructed a wall besieging the family of another Awami League leader.

“The MP was called to party office over the matter. We have ordered the local administration and the police to raze down the wall. The demolition work has already begun,” General Secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters on Sunday.

Witnesses said local authorities deployed a heavy contingent of police at the time of the demolition. Paikgachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Fakrul Hasan supervised the demolition work on Sunday.

bdnews24.com and other media outlets earlier reported that Monirul Islam, the eldest son of the Paikgachha MP Nurul Haque, constructed the wall boxing in the family of Paikgachha Awami League leader Abdul Aziz Goldar.

Monirul claimed he had purchased the land from its rightful owners.

The family of Aziz were using ladders or tunnel-like passage underneath the wall to move in and out of their house.

Aziz claimed they have been living in the house for the last seven decades. He has deeds for 20 decimals of land while they were using another 30 decimals of government land under verbal permission from Upazila administration.

“But now, Monirul Islam, son of Khulna-6 (Paikgachha) MP Nurul Haq, has constructed the boundary wall encircling all the 50 decimals of land claiming he has purchased the land,” he added.

Her also alleged Monirul's men threatened his family to leave the home.
