She was assaulted violently on Oct 3 on the Sylhet MC College campus by Badrul Alam, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Shahjalal University of Science and Technology unit.

She sustained severe injuries to her brain, head, hands and legs in the machete attack.

Locals nabbed Badrul immediately after the attack and handed him over to the police.

The third-year economics student Khadiza underwent three surgeries and was put on life support until Oct 13 at Dhaka's Square Hospital.

She is now being treated at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) at Dhaka's Savar for the paralysis in her left arm and leg.

Her attacker Badrul has been charged with attempt to murder and is being tried in a Sylhet court, which has already recorded testimonies of 32 witnesses.

On Thursday, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero recorded the statement of Square Hospital's doctor Rezaus Sattar with the defendant on the dock.

The court fixed Jan 8 to hear out the victim, after which recording of testimonies of witnesses produced by the plaintiff will come to an end, said Public Prosecutor Mahfuzur Rahman.
